单耀宗，号南山居士，浙江省金华人，现长住北京。自幼便显露出非凡的艺术天赋，十岁时便能熟练地速写人物、动物、山水，其才华与天赋令人瞩目。然而，他的艺术之路并非一帆风顺，青少年时期正值社会动荡，但他依然坚韧不拔，矢志不渝地追求艺术之路，遍寻名师，以求画技精进。
他的艺术造诣得益于多位大师的悉心指导。他曾得到李苦禅、李可染、朱屺瞻、蒋海齐等大师的亲自授艺，从他们身上汲取了丰富的艺术养分。他师承齐派李苦禅，同时兼学岭南派、海派、长安派等各派之长，博采众长，
集百家之精华，形成了自己独特而全面的艺术风格。他的画作不仅专攻花鸟，更擅长人物、山水、动物，是近百年难得的全项兼得的艺术大师。
